The Painted Turtle, the sixth addition to Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camps is the only multi-disease camp of its kind on the West Coast. The camp offers many of the traditional summer camp activities, fishing, horseback riding, swimming, and arts and crafts. In addition, the camp is staffed with top quality medical professionals that can meet every need a child may encounter while at camp and there is one adult for every two children at the camp.

The Painted Turtle opened in 1999 to serve the more than one million children in California with chronic illnesses and over 17,500 who are unable to attend camp due to their medical needs. Each year hundreds of children attend their weekly summer camps and weekend sessions at their Lake Hughes campsite.
