Get on the Bus

Get on the Bus was founded in 1999 by Sister Suzanne Jabro, a nun with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondolet. As a result of her prison ministries, she found that an astonishing number of women NEVER see their children while incarcerated. Sadly, there is no rhyme or reason as to where a woman will be sentenced, so they are often incarcerated far from their homes.

Get on the Bus organizes trips for children to visit their mothers in prison for Mother's Day. This year, the event took place on Friday, May 12, the Friday prior to Mother's Day. Get on the Bus began with one bus in 1999 and this year there were 34 buses.

All children and adults are given goody bags for the bus ride and on their return, each child is given a new teddy bear as a gift from their mother (provided by Get on the Bus). Circle of Friends participated in the bags for the children and their care givers attending the event.
