Hoshi's Bonsai Tree!

My father has a bonsai tree he got from his father. He is teaching me to grow one on my own from an Azalea branch. If I show responsibility by caring for mine, I hope to one day receive my father's bonsai tree!

In Japanese, Bonsai means "tray planting". It is the artistic hobby of growing trees in small containers and maintaining them by feeding and watering them only enough for healthy growth. The tree is pruned and the branches are trained to be a desired shape by using wire coil.

Bonsai growing is sometimes called an art without an end because there is no such thing as a "finished" bonsai as long as the tree is alive and growing. The trees can grow as tall as 3 feet, or be small enough to fit in one's palm! Many bonsai trees can live 100 years or more, and are handed down from one generation to another as valued family possesions.
