| Lala Favorite Animal: Leaping Lemurs!
Lala?s favorite animal is the Ring-Tailed Lemur. Lemurs are only found in the wild in Madagascar, where Lala lives! There are some on the small islands surrounding Madagascar too, but they were moved there by humans. All Lemurs are endangered species, which means there aren?t very many of them left in the whole world.
Lala likes the Ring-Tailed Lemur because when she is out in the rainforest, they leap between trees above hear head. They also come down to the ground and walk around next to her!
The Ring-Tailed Lemur is only one of the more than 30 different kinds of lemurs that live in Madagascar. Lemurs range in size from about mouse-sized to about 2 feet tall! The name lemur comes from the Latin word ?lemures? which means ?sprits of the night.? The small lemurs, like the little Mouse Lemurs are nocturnal, meaning they are awake at night in the dark and sleep during the day. They are omnivores, so they eat all kinds of fruits and leaves as well as insects. The larger lemurs are diurnal, which means they are active during the day, like you! They generally are herbivores, meaning they eat fruit and leaves, but not insects.
Many people from all over the world travel to Madagascar to see the lemurs in their natural habitat. Lala loves to visit with them and learn about different cultures from around the world and let them know why she loves the lemurs.
