GREAT WALL OF CHINA

Chehn's country is home to one of the great wonders of the world, the Great Wall! Chehn lives in Beijing and recently visited the stretch of the Great Wall near his city! Read more about what Chehn saw!
Chehn just visited the Great Wall of China with his family and was amazed! It is so big! One day, Chehn wants to ride his bike on the wall. The wall zig zags over 4000 miles across China, and in places, the wall is over 25 feet high and 30 feet wide at the base. It was built entirely by hand over thousands of years, with some parts being built out of stone and others being built out of brick. Different parts of the wall were built at different times and originally they weren't connected. The original parts of the Great Wall were built to keep out Mongol invaders over 2000 years ago and to separate different territories. The top of the wall is 12 feet across in some places so wagons or troops could march across. There are also over 10,000 guard stations and watch towers on the Great Wall used for housing troops, storing weapons and signaling other towers about approaching invaders. The guards on the Great Wall watch towers would use smoke to signal each other during the day and light fires as signals at night.
Today, however, Chehn looks out one of the windows and sees the green rolling hills of his country and walks down the wall in the same way troop did thousands of years ago. Chehn can't wait until the day he can ride his bicycle to the Great Wall from his home in Beijing!
